Four late runs by the Boston Red Sox put the Baltimore Orioles in a big hole that they were not able to come out of as they lost 6-3 on Monday night. Two runs in both the eighth and ninth inning hurt the O’s as they dropped the first game of the series.
All three of the Orioles runs came off the bat of Aubrey Huff. Huff connected on a solo home run and then a two run double in the game. Besides Huff’s two hits, only three other players had a hit in the game as most of the offense struggled.
Jeremy Guthrie got the start on the mound and gave up two runs in seven innings to get the loss and is now 10-9 on the season. Rocky Cherry and Jim Johnson both gave up two runs as the Red Sox blew the game open in the final two innings of the game.
